IT STARTED WITH A LOVE LETTER.
I Heart Yakima started in 2012 as a love letter, written to inspire everyone in Yakima to share their community pride. That love fueled new promotions, projects and events celebrating what’s great about our community. We created Yakima-centric apparel so we can all wear our heart on our sleeve, and the sales fund our work.
HOW CAN YOU HEART YAKIMA?
Put on your favorite IHY T-shirt or gear. (Shop IRL at The Seasons Gallery or check our Facebook page for local Pop-Up Shops) Proceeds from IHY goods produce programs like the Inside Out temporary art installation, featuring 176 portraits of local folks! Participate in civic life. Share positive Yakima stories. Write your own love letter. We’re celebrating community, participation, and positivity — join in the fun.
PEOPLE OF YAKIMA
In March 2013, IHY established itself as the hosts for PechaKucha Night Yakima. There have since been many PechaKucha Nights, which have highlighted makers, business owners, innovators, farmers, community members, and volunteers. PechaKucha Night Yakima aims to be a gathering place for community members who want to envision the Yakima of the future, and connect with the people who are making it happen.
24 HOURS IN YAKIMA
Driven to create and share positive content about Yakima, IHY teamed up with a talented crew to highlight some of Yakima’s best features in a short video. IHY kicked off 2014 with a Kickstarter campaign to fund that video. The first cut of “24 Hours in Yakima” debuted at a Premiere Party in February 2014. The generosity of the community (49 backers pledged $7,886!) allowed IHY to create a richer “24 Hours in Yakima: Extended Cut” which many local businesses use a promotional tool. The first ever IHY Holiday Party was also held in 2014. It was a great opportunity for folks to buy IHY merch, while supporting civic pride and interacting with their neighbors and friends.
