Issue #045
"May all your troubles soon be gone. Oh, Christmas lights, keep shining on."
December 11, 2020

Hi Yaki-peeps.

Checking in – how are you doing? We’re hanging in there and we hope you are, too. With our COVID numbers high and our only hospital with limited acute care capacity, we are grateful for all those who are able to hang at home, mask up, and stay safe as much as you can. And it seems a vaccine is upon us! The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. We have much to be hopeful about.

Even if you are among the lucky ones who haven't been sick, lost your job, income, health, loved ones, sanity ... it’s been a rough one. We’d like to congratulate all of us for getting this far, and supporting each other.

Speaking of supporting each other, there are so many local businesses joining forces to help each other out right now – and it’s made for some great local holiday shopping. Here are a few we’re crushing on right now.

Visit: Collaboration Coffee is always top of our list, even if they’re not listed. We love their community-focused mission, empowerment of local artists and artisans, and their coffee is simply divine. They currently have a holiday artists’ market in their light and lovely space…making it easy to shop local and support the arts at the same time.

Shop: What started as a pop-up shop for Small Business Saturday evolved into a limited-time partnership between Nomad Mercantile and Crafted. With indoor dining moving to patio-only, the extra indoor space is now Nomad’s temporary downtown retail space (you can always find them in Tieton). Browse before or after you dine. It’s a perfect pairing.

Read: Local educator and artist Christie Tirado is getting well-deserved accolades for her print series, America’s Essential Workers, featuring farm workers of the Valley. She recently was awarded the prestigious Larry Sommers Fellowship, in which she intends to focus her work on the apple industry. Bravo, Christie! Read all about her in this great CrossCut article. Her work is available for sale through her website.

Watch: Since we’re all staying in as much as possible, might as well binge some quality screen time, yes? We've made it through The Queen’s Gambit, The Crownand The Undoing (Nicole Kidman’s coats!!), and are mid-way into The Flight Attendant. One of us may have watched the inaugural season of Ted Lasso...twice. Our festive holiday viewing includes Love Actually (Hugh Grant is always dreamy...), The Family Stone, and the cheesy, but sweet, Last Holiday.  What are your holiday viewing plans?
