Guerra's Gourmet Natural Seasonings

Using a jar of Guerra's Gourmet Natural Seasonings is like sprinkling Yakima Valley terroir directly onto your palate. A top secret blend of Sunnyside-grown ground peppers, sea salt, and other all-natural herbs and spices, it is especially good on vegetables (um, hello Lino’s famous asparagus). As Mrs. Guerra herself will tell you, it is not spicy, it just adds flavor! Order via phone to have it delivered, or pick it up wherever you find Guerra’s food truck!

Gilbert Cellars’ Music in the Vines

Imagine golden sunshine warming your face and the scent of lavender wafting in the air. Cue the sounds of talented bands, local wine hitting your lips, and the beauty of orchards filling your view. This is your senses exploding at Gilbert Cellars’ Music in the Vines concerts. Now in its ninth year, it is a do-not-miss summer in Yakima experience! If you’re among the converted, you’ll be sure to get your season tickets long before the first day of summer and the winery’s first concert on June 21. (Photo Cred: Gilbert Cellars)

The Patios

What better way to prolong the Yakima sunshine than to grab a drink or dinner on one of our town’s fine patios? Sip a greyhound at Gasperetti’s, grab a beer with friends at Sports Center (reopening in late June!), or take the family for a night out under the umbrellas at Second Street Grill. Don’t forget Front Street alfresco spots Gilbert Cellars and Antolin Cellars, and if you’re out in West Valley, Apple Tree’s patio overlooking the golf course does not disappoint. Cheers! Roots & Vines

Roots & Vines just announced the 2019 lineup for its May 18 event, and it does not disappoint. With headliner Austin Jenckes getting ready to release his debut album, it is sure to be a boot-stomping good time. Happening on charming historic North Front Street in downtown Yakima, it's the first big event of the season, foreshadowing all the good times to come, sipping local craft beverages under the Yakima sun.  (Photo Cred: Roots & Vines Fest)

Spring Barrel Weekend

Spring Barrel weekend is the high holiday of Spring in the Yakima Valley. Your instinct might say “avoid the crowds,” but you can craft a lovely local outing with a concise plan in hand. On Sunday, pick two wineries no further than 10 minutes apart, double check their operating hours, and arrive at your first stop around 1pm. Enjoy this well-balanced itinerary and return home to stock your cellar. (Photo Cred: Gilbert Cellars

Waterworks Canyon Trail

Seeing that pale green wash of color on the hills is such a delight. And the perfect hike to dive into the season is Waterworks Canyon Trail. Past Naches, the trailhead is just west of the “Y” on the right side of Highway 410. You can take in wildflowers, mountain goats, elk, and even bighorn sheep. It is a quad burning, elevation-gaining, 4.2 mile, up-and-back, dog friendly hike – get after it! (Photo Cred: Sean Hawkins)

Antojito's Breakfast

Antojitos’ breakfast. Even if you’re a regular at this local joint, what you may not know is that they have one of the most primo breakfasts in town, perhaps even the state. The chilaquiles are lights out, eggs are cooked to order, burritos are bigger than your head, and you can pour all those flavorful salsas on everything. Go eat some eggs wrapped in a tortilla for me, will ya?

The One Minute Rule

The One Minute Rule. I don’t know who came up with it, but here it is: if a task takes less than one minute to do, just do it. For me: hanging up a coat, moving my shoes all the way to the closet, washing and drying a wine glass immediately. It has made a big difference at our house (and on my desk, for that matter.) If you wish you could Kondo your life, but don’t have time to commit, this is a quick hit of tidying magic.
