Happy Friday, Yakima:

We can feel the days getting longer, and we are so down with it. We hope you are finding ways to enjoy the winter sun!

ICYMI, last week's newsletter was all about things we're looking forward to in the coming months. We spied a few more: High-Steppe Climbing CenterMcIlrath Farms greenhouse goodies, the re-opening of the Stop and Go, and Rainier Square is getting another new hotel! The #dryside is expanding and growing. We like it.

Kids + Yakima.

We have been partnering with Gina Prescott of Sagebrush Kids to develop a Locals Guide to the Kid-Friendly Yakima. If you don't know the Sagebrush Kids Instagram account, it is a resource for kid-centric things in the Valley, and it is a wealth of information and ideas. Go there and follow her! PSA: You do NOT need an Instagram account to reap the benefits of the Instagram.

This week, we release the first three - Yakima Ice RinkYakima Valley Museum, and the Warehouse Theatre Company - of the guide, chosen for things to do indoors if the littles are resistant to being outside during the last of these chilly months! Read about them here.

Yakima Mile.
We HEART the Yakima Mile. It's back for the second year. Yesterday, it was announced that the 2020 Yakima Mile will be on Saturday June 13 (5:30p โ€“ 8:30p). Registration is OPEN. There's something for everyone, from families to elite runners. We love the kids' race at the very end (no registration required), and it's "kinda" โ€“ okay, it's SUPER - cool to see the elite runners. Check out all the race categories here.

You've got 113 days to get your legs and heart in shape for the record-breaking course. If you don't run it, we fully endorse coming as a spectator to cheer everyone on and hang out downtown. Get some snacks at Cowiche Canyon Kitchen outside so you can cheer on the runners! Last year, the inaugural race was fast, furious, and a record-breaker!

The men's state record was set at 3:51.79, and women's mile record was missed by a mere two seconds. We think 2020 is the year the women's record is going to be smashed! Join us to witness potential history.

We are proud to partner with the Yakima Mile, which supports the Yakima School District's Community Schools Violence Prevention Program.

Peonies are around the corner and so are asparagus. (We're already thinking about tamales. FYI, Los Hernรกndez Tamales now has two locations.) But before all of that, Spring Barrel Tasting is April 24th - 26th. Mark your calendars.
